Koback had rushed for roughly 1,100 yards in what amounted to about five quarters of action -- yes, you read that correctly -- before he broke his tibia and fibula on his second carry of his team's game against Southview last fall.

Fortunately for his football future, Koback had the loyalty of the Kentucky coaching staff and they honored his scholarship. He enrolled early, although he sat out of spring practice because of his rehab process.

Now, with the season less than two months away, sources tell CatsIllustrated.com that Koback seems to be back to 100-percent and there's a very real chance he could compete for playing time in his true freshman season in Lexington.

That's a very positive development for a program that appeared to have just three healthy scholarship running backs in his absence. Benny Snell is Kentucky's first team running back according to Kentucky's first preseason depth chart, with Sihiem King and A.J. Rose battling for the number two spot.

While Koback isn't yet on the depth chart, based on what we've heard it sounds as though he'll be ready to try to move up the chart in that competition in fall camp.

One source said Koback's strength has returned. Time will tell if there has been any impact on Koback's famous speed. He was routinely clocked at better than 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash as a high school recruit.
