STATEMENT WIN

"The win puts UK, LSU and Florida all in a tie for first place in the conference. The Wildcats will split the SEC East with one more win in the series and could win the conference outright with a sweep and at least one LSU loss."

QUESTIONS FOR 2017-18 KENTUCKY BASKETBALL

"Kentucky's 2017-18 basketball team should have undeniable strengths.

Depth? There should be plenty of it. Length? In spades. Athleticism? As always. Versatility, youthful energy, rebounding? Yes, yes, yes.

That's why, regardless of what questions remain to be answered, Kentucky will have a lofty national ranking when next season begins. But there are still some questions to answer. Here we'll lay them out."

CALIPARI TALKS VANDERBILT, KNOX, BAKER

“To go along with who we have coming back, this group of young people – I’m ecstatic,” Calipari said. “I’m telling you, it’s going to be hard. We will be the youngest team and most inexperienced team in the country. This may be my youngest team ever, but you know what, I love the challenge of it because we have kids that will share, that are going to give it up for each other and that are comfortable in their own skin. They come from great homes. They understand they’re on a mission. They want to get better. Those are the kinds of kids that we want here at Kentucky.”

KNICKS LIKE MONK...AT POINT

"The Knicks hope they will have a chance to decide whether Kentucky combo guard Malik Monk can play point guard in the NBA.

Some NBA executives believe Kentucky’s leading scorer needs to make the switch to point to solidify himself as a viable NBA starter because of his size and wingspan."

KNICKS LONGSHOT FOR MONK, FOX

"Falling to eighth in the NBA Draft Lottery severely hurt the Knicks’ chances of getting either Kentucky guard. Fox is expected to be taken in the top five. Monk, projected to go sixth, also should be gone when the Knicks pick."

BAMBA TO TEXAS: WHAT IT MEANS

"While Bamba kept everyone in the dark it was clear that the Harlem center would make a random announcement. Bamba wasn't going to do an ESPN interview or hop on a radio show, but instead just announcing it when he was ready.

He was ready on Thursday and there was no warning. There was no time to touch in with UK's staff to see where things stand. As a matter of fact, if Calipari knew Bamba was going to pick Texas he didn't find out until moments before the commitment."

THE WAR ROOM (5/18)

"Lakota West linebacker Xavier Peters is one of the most intriguing players on Kentucky's board. Some have wondered, recently, whether Ohio State might be offering. Apparently, the Buckeyes want Peters to camp this summer. CatsIllustrated.com has heard, through channels with sources...."

IMPACT OF BAMBA DECISION

"Poor John Calipari, Kentucky and Big Blue Nation, they'll have to get over the loss of Bamba by celebrating their still No. 1 2017 recruiting class. Of course, the Wildcats could have used a presence such as Bamba on the interior, but they won't be lacking for size and athleticism. Bamba picking Texas does put a little more pressure on five-star big man Nick Richards to be ready to play and serve as a rim protector as a freshman, but the 7-footer is a big-time talent with plenty of athleticism and should be up to the challenge."

BAMBA OR KNOX: MORE IMPORTANT FOR NEXT YEAR'S TEAM?

"Kentucky has more depth in the frontcourt than they do in the backcourt, but Bamba is the better player and if I were forced to pick between the two I would have taken Bamba.

Although you can't go wrong with either, Bamba is the defensive player that could have an Anthony Davis like college impact and could be the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. I don't know if Kevin Knox could get in the No. 1 pick conversation, although you never know."

CAL CAST: PODCAST REVIEW

"I remember this conversation," Anthony Davis said. "When we were at Kentucky Darius Miller, who was a senior, came and sat all of us down, the entire team. He said, 'Look, I'm trying to win a ring before I get up outta here.' And he told us, 'Leave y'all's egos at the door. We're all trying to come here and win. All you freshmen who come in with all this hype, trust me, I didn't play with...' He played with DeMarcus, John, Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight. He played with all these guys. He was like, 'You know, we have a great team but in order for us to be successful we gotta leave all of our egos at the door and play for each other.'"

FRANKFORT ATHLETE HEARING FROM CATS

"...he didn't exactly come out of nowhere, but on the recruiting circuit Robinson just made his mark last Saturday at a Rivals Camp in Columbus, Ohio. He turned in a 4.39 second 40-yard dash, which helps explain how he was able to post those exceptional numbers. With two years of high school remaining, room to grow and develop and speed that renders him almost untouchable in the open field, expect to hear a lot more about him in the coming year.

Kentucky's taking a closer look. In fact, the Cats were doing that before his Rivals Camp."

WALL, DAVIS EARN ALL-NBA HONORS

"Anthony Davis is back at the top. John Wall is now considered among the elite.

So say the 100 media members who voted for the annual All-NBA Teams, which the league announced Thursday. Davis was named to the All-NBA First Team for the second time in his career while Wall made the All-NBA Third Team."

JACQUES-LOUIS STATUS REPORT

"Michigan State has been one of Kentucky's biggest recruiting rivals since Mark Stoops took over in Lexington, but Ohio has been where most of the wars between the Wildcats and Spartans have been waged.

Jacques-Louis tweeted his appreciation for the Spartans' offer on Thursday, but don't expect it to impact his recruitment right now.

'Still solid,' Jacques-Louis told CatsIllustrated.com, indicating that his status with Kentucky has not changed."
