LEXINGTON, Ky. — Freshman Zack Thompson will start game one of the super regional between UK and Louisville. Thompson, a lefthander, earned his eighth win of the season after throwing a career-high seven innings against Indiana in the Lexington Regional.

Thompson started both games against Louisville earlier in the season. He earned the win on April 18 after allowing four earned runs in five innings. He only lasted 2.2 innings in his start against the Cardinals. Louisville won the game 5-1.

Thompson currently has the lowest ERA among starting pitchers on UK’s roster. He has an 8-2 record, 3.52 ERA with 90 strikeouts and 36 walks.

Louisville announced that junior righthander Kade McClure will start for the Cardinals. McClure is 7-3 with 3.63 ERA this season as the Saturday starter for Louisville. The decisions for both schools not to throw their aces should set up a Saturday matchup between SEC Pitcher of the Year Sean Hjelle and Baseball America Player of the Year Brendan McKay.
