LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky baseball coach Nick Mingione confirmed that reliever Zach Pop will miss at least two weeks with a forearm injury. Pop injured his forearm on April 29 against South Carolina.

Pop is 1-1 with a 3.48 earned run average in 21 appearances this season. If there's a silver lining to his injury, it's that the Wildcats play two of the worst teams in the conference the next two weekends in Georgia and Tennessee. Still, Pop has been one of UK's best relievers this season and will make the bullpen a bit thinner until he returns.

"Once we see how he responds to all the treatments and things like that we'll have a better feel," Mingione said. "But it's going to be a minimum of at least two weeks, maybe longer."

Kentucky unveiled a new wall design in right field. It reads "We Are UK," a popular saying Mingione uses.

"You guys know how much I love this place," Mingione said. "If you follow me on social media I always tweet out "We Are UK," because this goes way deeper than just our baseball program. This is the University of Kentucky. There's people that are born in this state and talk about bleeding blue. It's just a little way for us to thank all of our season ticket holders, our former players, everyone that has been associated with our program."

SCHOOL'S OUT

First baseman Evan White said "it's the best time of the year," when finals are completed and the semester ends.

"It's so fun to go out there and focus on baseball and realize you've taken care of everything in the classroom," White said. "It's just a fun time of year and we're looking forward to it."

Mingione stressed to his players that finals week is the most important week of the year for his team. He said by the time practice started that all but one player will have wrapped up finals for the semester. The goal, Mingione said, is to have another semester where the team GPA will be above 3.0.

"I'm looking forward to finding out what our GPA is probably more than the baseball games."
