Perry was selected by the Red Sox in the 14th round of the MLB Draft. The Herald Dispatch reported that Perry is expected to sign on Thursday and then report to Fort Myers, Florida, to join Boston’s rookie league affiliate.
Perry suffered a stress fracture in his elbow during his senior season, though it didn’t require surgery. Prior to his injury, Perry was 3-1 with a 0.33 ERA. The 5-foot-10 righthander burst onto the national scene last October in Jupiter, Florida. Baseball America reported that Perry’s fastball touched 95 MPH early in his outing for the Kentucky Baseball Club.

With the signing, UK loses one of its top high school arms in the class. Brad Dobzanski, a 39th round selection of the San Francisco Giants, is expected to attend UK. Joey Cantillo, a lefthanded pitcher from Hawaii who was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 16th round, could have a final decision this week.
UK sophomore Justin Lewis is “up in the air” on his decision to return to UK or sign with the Tampa Bay Rays, according to a source. Lewis was drafted by the Rays in the 11th round.
