It's almost easy to forget that Moses Douglass has only been a part of Kentucky's football program for one year.

He was on UK's radar for so long as a recruit and he bears a name so familiar to Wildcat fans, there's easy forgiveness for those who imagined he's been around the program's football facilities for longer.

Background: Kentucky fans and especially those at Cats Illustrated started to hear about Douglass years ago when he was an emerging high school prospect. It was obvious he would be of interest to the Wildcats because of his talent and the fact that his father, Moe, was a well-known UK football player.

Douglass was not a lock for Kentucky and entertained interest from lots of Power Five programs over the course of his recruitment before he picked UK and didn't waver before signing with Mark Stoops' program.

As a true freshman early enrollee last year Douglass redshirted behind much older players in the secondary. However, there was significant hype from the coaching staff from the moment he signed, with Mark Stoops having a lot of positive things to say about him and the coaching staff talking him up during the last spring.

Douglass played in three games for Kentucky last year, logging 42 snaps in all. He was occasionally on UK's kick coverage unit and was moved around from the box to slot corner and free safety depending on UK's defensive alignment.

2020 Outlook: There's a bit of a logjam at safety that exists going into the 2020 season but Douglass will still have an opportunity during fall camp to convince the coaches that needs a look.

Quandre Mosely and Yusuf Corker were the two safeties who played the most last season and with Davonte Robinson returning after missing last year there's a lot of experience in those older players on the roster.

However, lots of defensive backs need to play, and Douglass may very well be a number two going into this year. That would put him in great position to play a major role for the program in the years ahead.

In an interview with Cats Illustrated earlier this offseason defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale said he and the staff remain very excited about Douglass' future with the program. First-year safeties coach Frank Buffano will be integral to Douglass' development moving forward.
