According to a report on Monday, freshman Kentucky point guard De'Aaron Fox is taking the path everyone expected from the moment he committed.
CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported on social media on Monday that a source had informed him that Fox will sign with an agent and enter the NBA Draft.
However, De'Aaron Fox took to Twitter immediately after Rothstein's tweet and asked, "Who confirmed that?" leaving open the door that the report could be incorrect. Shortly after posting that not-so-cryptic but indirect reply, Fox deleted his tweet. Rothstein doubled-down on his report and posted it in full.
Signing with an agent will ensure that Fox is 100-percent set on playing professionally and would make him ineligible to return to Kentucky in 2017-18.
The news, if true would come as no surprise. It has been universally acknowledged that Fox and freshman counterpart Malik Monk would not return for their sophomore seasons.
Speculation has Bam Adebayo and Isaiah Briscoe more likely than not to leave Kentucky as well, joining the three departing seniors, but their futures are a little less certain.
Some outlets and publications awarded Fox third team All-American honors following the 2016-17 season. The former five-star recruit averaged 16.7 points, 4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game in, according to Rothstein's report, his only season in Lexington.
He will be succeeded at the point guard position by incoming freshman five-star guard Quade Green, who just participated in the McDonald's All-American Game.
