Kentucky commits Tyler Herro and Keldon Johnson were both selected to the Jordan Brand Classic all-star game on Thursday.
Johnson was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Virginia, where he stars for Oak Hill Academy.
Keldon Johnson hit the trifecta and will play in the McDonald's All-American game, the Nike Hoop Summit and now the Jordan Brand Classic. Herro will join Johnson at the Hoop Summit game and Jordan Brand Classic.
UK commit Immanuel Quickley was named to the McDonald's All-American game but omitted from the other two prestigious all-star games.
The Jordan Brand Classic is April 8th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Johnson is averaging 22.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists during his senior season. Herro is averaging 32.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.3 steals per game and shooting nearly 44 percent from deep.
John Calipari has had a player in the Jordan Brand Classic every year since taking over at Kentucky in 2009. The Jordan Brand Classic has different rules than the McDonald's All-American game. The latter will not allow prep players or fifth year seniors while the Jordan Brand Classic will accept any senior.
Duke leads the game with three players while the Cats have two. SEC comrades Vanderbilt and LSU also have two players each.
These all-star games don't always just rely on statistics from recruit's senior season. Shoe companies play a big role. The McDonald's All-American game is sponsored by adidas so it may not be a surprise to learn that Quickley played on the adidas AAU circuit and was selected. The Hoop Summit and Jordan Brand Classic are sponsored by Nike and Jordan Brand. Herro and Johnson played on the Nike EYBL AAU circuit and were named to the two Nike games.
UK target E.J. Montgomery, who also played on the adidas circuit, wasn't named to the Jordan Brand Classic. He has recently taken visits to UNC, Duke and Kentucky after previously being committed to Auburn.
