Pipeline receiver: 'I think I belong out there in that stadium'

Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna has been kind to Kentucky recently, sending Joshua Ali and Chris Whittaker to Kentucky earlier this year.

Marvin Alexander and Davoan Hawkins both attend the school and they are committed to Kentucky from the 2018 class.

The school is also home to 2019 receiver Marlin Mayo, who camped at Kentucky over the weekend and landed an offer from the Cats.

It was a big offer for Mayo, a wide receiver who had turned in an outstanding camp performance at Kentucky. That much was clear to anyone who watched the camp, so the offer probably didn't come as a surprise to anybody.

"I enjoyed myself real good up there," Mayo told CatsIllustrated.com. "I started off with a little competition. I won my first route and caught it and that already had Coach Lamar's (Thomas) eyes on me. He and coach (Tommy) Mangino were following me around the whole camp and I was just making plays. I had people there to record me and I sent videos out. Two days later they told me they had offered me."

So what did Mayo think about Kentucky?

"The atmosphere was great," Mayo said. "The campus was good. I loved the stadium. Loved the stadium. I think I belong out there in that stadium and that's why I was making plays.

"I had a chance to put on a jersey, to see the dorms and see all the coaches. From the first time me and Coach Lamar met I knew I would have a good relationship with him."

Mayo has also visited Ohio State, Michigan State, Tennessee, Bowling Green and Toledo this summer. Kentucky was his second camp of the summer.

The 2019 receiver told CatsIllustrated.com he has a strong bond with his former Chaminade teammates who signed with or committed to Kentucky.

"We have a real close connection with each other," he said. "My coach made sure before they went off to college that we had a good connection with each other so even if we're far away we always stay in touch. In fact once I got the Kentucky offer Josh Ali was the first person to call me."
