"I'm not here to start any QB controversy. Steven Johnson is our starter. All QB's have an off game or half, which he did. Came close to some big completions, but Jeff Badet is no longer running under those long passes.

1. Last year in the spring game he was 4 for 5 as an early enrollee true freshman. That amazed me last year because it's so rare. Can't remember seeing anyone do that in a similar part of their UK career as a QB in the last 40 years. Maybe Tim Couch.

2. This year he is 16 for 24(66.7%), most of the time playing against the first team D, with 2nd stringers. Of course we know our depth is so much better he had good talent of both sides of the ball to support him.

3. His release is incredibly fast.

4. He showed good vision of the field and at times went through at least a few progressions on various plays.

5. He's faster than I thought, showing by escaping one tackler/blitzer running to his left and completing about a ten yard pass. He also got a TD running to his right and throwing to the open man. He also scored on a bootleg left.

6. He's aware when the protection is breaking down and reacts well. See #5 above.

7. He seems very calm and poised.

8. For a QB with a rivals 5.5 ranking I have to commend our staff for finding those players who are better than their rankings. Hello, Boogie Watson, Jamin Davis, Kevin Looney and Clevan Thomas."

"With Bamba and Johnson, we won't be undefeated but we'll be pretty good. I would guess we might be sweet 16 team. even an elite 8 team, with an outside shot at a Final Four.

What gives me a little hope, is that with Bamba, Richards, Vanderbilt, et. al., we will have something we haven't had in a couple of years: length and athleticism in the frontcourt in more than one player. The year before last, our frontcourt was almost nonexistent (although they're sure tearing it up in the pros) Last year, Bam held his own, but didn't get a lot of help. Willis played well at the end of the year, but even at his best, he wasn't really huge muscle guy that could give us much presence inside. As well as Bam acquitted himself, he wasn't really a rim protector, and it didn't take teams very long to realize that double teaming him was a decent gamble."

"I really like what we have at the slot receiver positions. We have the two Seniors, Johnson and Walker. I thought Walker looked really good in the game also and Johnson is a proven commodity. Hopefully he can play a little more consistent and have a monster senior year. Thomas definitely did some good things last night and it sounds like Bowden will get some snaps in the slot as well as other spots on offense. I was also impressed with both the walk-on slot receivers, Bouvier and Kendall. Both did an excellent job of getting open and made both the routine and tough catches."
