LEXINGTON, Ky. — After taking three of four games over top 10 opponents last week, Kentucky is now projected as a national seed according to D1baseball.com. The Wildcats are rated as the No. 6 team in the nation by the website and are now listed as the No. 6 overall seed in the tournament. The other teams in Kentucky's region are South Florida, Indiana and Kent State.
The Hoosiers travel to Lexington to play a midweek game against the Wildcats on May 9.
The Wildcats have never been a national seed and haven't hosted a regional since 2006. Kentucky won its only SEC championship in school history that season but lost to College of Charleston in the regional final.
Kentucky (28-13, 12-6) lead the SEC East by two games in Nick Mingione's first season. The Wildcats host Xavier (24-17) on Wednesday night and travel to South Carolina this weekend for a three-game series.
