The 6-foot-2, 189-pound linebacker from Ludowici (Ga.) Long County announced his commitment on Twitter, putting a quick end to his recruitment following an offer from the Cats.

Prior to Davis' offer from Kentucky and his commitment the only other reported offer he had was from Tulane. Kentucky was his first major conference offer.

Andy Buh, UK's area recruiter for his part of Georgia, led the charge on behalf of the staff.

Although Davis is listed at 189 pounds it's possible that has changed since that listing was entered. His 6-foot-2 frame has the proportionately and room for growth to allow Davis to carry significantly more weight, one source close to the program told Cats Illustrated.

Davis led Long County (3-7) with 131 total tackles in the 2015 season. His 93 solo tackles were more than double the second-best player on the team in that category. That averages out to 13.1 total tackles per game, and 12 of Davis' tackles on the year came behind the line of scrimmage. He also had three sacks, a hurry, four forced fumbles and a blocked field goal.

Time will tell whether Davis proves to be an inside or outside linebacker for Kentucky. On Rivals.com he's listed as an inside linebacker, although he has not yet been evaluated for a ranking. But on Davis' Hudl.com player page his school lists him as an outside linebacker (and receiver).

Buh coaches Kentucky's outside linebackers and would thus be not only his area recruiter but also his position coach if that's where Davis plays.

Davis attended Kentucky's junior day over the weekend and passed the look test, according to the same source. Players who take the initiative in visiting early do themselves a favor with most coaching staffs and that could be doubly true with Kentucky's staff as they deal with players from the South who are sometimes difficult to bring in for visits.
