Harrison twins commit to Kentucky over Maryland

As expected, twin brothers Aaron Harrison and Andrew Harrison committed to the University of Kentucky on Thursday, during a live press announcement on ESPNU.
Maryland came on hard in the recruitment of the Harrisons, but in the end the allure of Lexington was just too much for the five-star guards from Fort Bend (Tex.) Travis High School to pass up.

"We just sat down one night and just decided that we wanted to go somewhere that - we wanted to win and knew we could win as soon as we get there," Aaron Harrison said on the broadcast.
Over last few, debate had raged as to whether the twins would ultimately decide on playing for Kentucky coach John Calipari or Maryland, which made a strong recruiting pitch behind head coach Mark Turgeon and the twins' ties to the area. The Harrisons also play for an AAU team sponsored by Under Armour, the Terrapins' athletic outfitter.
On Wednesday, a source close to the Harrisons told Cats Illustrated they would choose Kentucky.
Ultimately, the twins settled on UK as the better fit.
"I think Coach Calipari presented a challenge for us, and he just told us from day one it was going to be hard, it was going to be tough and he was going to push us every day," Andrew Harrison said. "And that's what we really wanted to hear. We just want to become better players."
The commitment of the twins gives Calipari his second and third verbal commitments for the 2013 class, joining in-state three-star forward Derek Willis.
With Calipari being closely linked to the recruitment of several other five-star prospects, two of whom have visited, the Harrison's are unlikely to be the final five-star commitments for what could be a class of about six prospects for Kentucky in 2013.
Check back with Cats Illustrated later this evening for full analysis of today's commitment, as well as an in-depth look at how the Harrisons will fit in at Kentucky and what fans can expect from them.
