Crucial visit for Griffin, UK

It's not a secret that plenty of other schools are still recruiting Jordan Griffin even though the defensive back has been committed to Kentucky since the beginning of October.
Griffin has never indicated that he's anything less than solid with Kentucky. He has consistently said that he's open to taking other official visits, but has been less vocal about that recently. With more and more of Kentucky's commitments reaffirming their status with UK as being strong through Signing Day, Griffin has implied that he's leaning in that direction.
Here's a very good sign for Kentucky: Although in August he had told Cats Illustrated that he would attend UK's games against Missouri, Tennessee and Louisville, Griffin was in Lexington and part of the recruiting festivities for the Cats' game against Florida on Saturday.
Wondering whether UK defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley considers Griffin an important recruit? Back in July he sent 100 handwritten letters to the three-star from Jonesboro, Ga. That was flattering enough for Griffin to picture in a tweet, and that's a relationship that's clearly proving to be important to him even as his stock rises in the recruiting world.
Griffin has very long arms for a defensive back -- even longer than one would expect from a 6-foot-1 player. He's had a huge senior season so far with everything from game-winning touchdown receptions on offense to multiple-interception games on the other side of the ball. Although he's been a versatile player and one of the biggest breakout players in the state of Georgia, on offense, defense and special teams, Griffin's future in Lexington will be at defensive back.
Rivals.com's Woody Wommack watched Griffin and Jonesboro take on Eastside (Ga.) not long ago and he labeled Griffin the surprise of the night.
"It was a banner night for Griffin, who starred on offense, defense and special teams," Wommack wrote. "The three-star prospect had a great summer while starring for Cam Newton's 7-on-7 team and it seems like he's carried that confidence into the season. Last year at this time Griffin was much more passive as a defender, while on Thursday he was all over the field while showing a willingness to help in run support. In addition to excellent coverage on the outside, Griffin was his team's leading receiver and had several big plays in the return game, including a 65-yard kickoff return that came up just short of the end zone."
