Summer camp season. It's almost here.
CatsIllustrated.com will be there for everything, and we've got the scoop on a bus tour that will bring more than two dozen Mid-Atlantic players to Lexington in the very near future.
The second annual Fasttrack Recruits & Champion Road Scholars exists to allow recruits from the DMV (the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia) the opportunity to visit schools they otherwise might not be able to get to.
This year the group includes more than 30 players from the Mid-Atlantic, and they'll be on the road visiting colleges from June 11-18. They're at Kentucky on June 16.
Here's a look at who will be coming.
Mychale Salahuddin is undoubtedly one of the headliners among the players who will be visiting. The Rivals250 running back has an offer from Kentucky, but the Cats have some ground to make up. Kentucky has some ground to make up with Salahuddin. He just released a top 11 that includes Temple, Michigan, Maryland, Baylor, North Carolina, Arkansas, Southern Cal, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Pitt.
Noah Boykin is one of the Mid-Atlantic's best defensive back prospects and he has the length Kentucky likes. Rated the No. 4 player in the District of Columbia, Boykin already has an offer from the Cats. He also has offers from Clemson, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee and others.
The Washington (D.C.) H.D. Woodson secondary is stacked as you can see, as Flythe is the teammate and classmate of Boykin. He, like Boykin, is very close to a four-star ranking. Kentucky has also offered Flythe. Steven Clinkscale is recruiting both players and he would be their position coach if they were to land at Kentucky. Flythe also has offers from Louisville, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wake Forest and Wisconsin among others.
Yet another three-star defensive back from the DMV who will be on this trip: Class of 2018 corner Chelen Garnes, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound Maryland native who has offers from Army, Navy, Air Force and many FCS programs.
Edward Hendrix, another Woodson prospect, is ranked among the top players in D.C. and the top receivers in the Mid-Atlantic region. Kentucky has offered. Arkansas, Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Lousiville, Maryland, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin have offered as well.
Robinson attends Woodson (notice a trend?) and he's carved out a nice reputation for himself. He's got some good options already with early offers from Army, East Carolina, Indiana, Southern Miss and Syracuse. A lot of Power Five schools are going to take a close look at him on this tour and he's one to watch for Kentucky.
McDaniel isn't as well known as a lot of the other players on this list but he's a 2018 prospect looking to make a name for himself going into his senior year. He had 79 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, two sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries last year. He's a two-year varsity starter who has heard from mostly FCS and Division II or III schools thus far.
Green is undersized but he's supposedly bigger than his profile currently shows him at. He's also supposed to now be at Washington (D.C.) Woodrow Wilson.
Borden is undersized as an offensive guard so he might have trouble earning SEC or Power Five offers but this summer is important to his future as a football player. He's a three-year varsity player and has drawn looks from Lehigh, Buffalo and others.
Brumfield is clearly smaller than your average running back so it's his task this summer to prove he can find a niche at the college level.
One of a couple of players from Lackey on this tour, Carter had 23 tackles, two picks and 10 pass breakups last fall. Morgan State, Fairmont State, Bucknell and other FCS/Division II/Division III schools have shown interest so far.
Lane is one of the better centers and interior linemen in Maryland. He probably has his work cut out for him in terms of earning an offer from Kentucky, because of the Cats' depth chart at center and because of Quintin Wilson's commitment. Howard, Penn, Buffalo and Central Connecticut State are some of the schools that have shown interest.
Although Jordan Houston is a Class of 2019 prospect he's worth paying attention to. Houston picked up an offer from Penn State earlier this year. He's an all-purpose back/athlete type the UK coaches will be eager to check out.
Davis, a Class of 2019 defensive back, has the right kind of size. He's still looking for his first offers and this tour will determine a lot going into his all-important junior season. He was very productive as a high school sophomore last fall. Davis rushed for 873 yards (126 carries) for eight touchdowns. Defensively he had 46 tackles and a sack. He picked off two passes as a freshman two seasons ago.
Garcia doesn't have any offers yet, but he's also young enough that we shouldn't read anything into that until we watch him work out. Garcia caught 13 passes for 236 yards and four touchdowns last year. He also picked off two passes when he played in the secondary for Flint Hill. Garcia's Twitter profile shows him as a 2020 recruit.
