CatsIllustrated.com has learned new details on Xavier Peters' recruitment, which has taken a dramatic turn one day after he committed to Kentucky.
A source close to Kentucky's end of the equation was adamant that Peters will ultimately be signing with the Wildcats.
However, apparently not everyone close to Peters is 100-percent on board with his decision and a family member wants to make sure they're on the same page with him. We can report with confidence that it's that family member's interest in Peters' recruitment that has led to Peters' uncertain status.
Here's the difficulty: Is Peters committed to Kentucky or not? Absent any formal declaration of a decommitment he remains on the commitment list. However, in spite of that and a trusted source maintaining Peters will sign with Kentucky, it is clear that the involved family member has raised an issue that the Cats will need to satisfy to keep Peters on board.
CatsIllustrated.com asked sources if the family member in question would prefer that Peters end up at another school. The answer we received was no, and that the family member only wanted to be more involved in the decision-making process. Although it was widely known that Peters was likely to commit to Kentucky in the near future, that family member was apparently surprised by the timing of the decision, and wasn't thrilled about it.
Sources have also said that Peters has been a Kentucky lean for a long time. However, he might have felt pressured to make his decision as quickly as he did.
Peters has removed all commitment references to Kentucky on his Twitter profile.
One person close to Peters told CatsIllustrated.com that the three-star linebacker is "taking some time off" from the recruiting process to think about his options, one day removed from his commitment to Kentucky.
Another source told CatsIllustrated.com that chatter about Cincinnati being involved with Peters is incorrect and that the Bearcats had nothing to do with the three-star prospect seeming to reopen his recruitment.
Earlier CatsIllustrated.com reported that Ohio State may have been involved in Peters' uncertainty, one day after his decision. But after a more in-depth consultation with a knowledgeable source it does not seem like the Buckeyes are involved with Peters on that level.
