LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky has hired former Tennessee defensive coordinator John Jancek in an off-the-field analyst position, the school confirmed on Monday. Jimmy Hyams first reported the news.

Jancek led the Tennessee defense from 2013-16. Prior to that, he spent three seasons as Cincinnati's defensive coordinator under Butch Jones. In Jancek's final season with the Vols, the defense ranked 16th in the FBS in scoring defense and 36th in total defense.

According to The Tennessean, Jancek and Jones had "a mutual parting of ways," in 2016. Jones called it "the toughest decision of his career."

Jancek spent the 2016 season as a safeties coach at South Florida. With his role at UK, Jancek will not be allowed to coach on the field. UK's defensive staff continues to grow in coaching experience. Three assistants on the staff now have coordinating experience. Matt House -- the current defensive coordinator -- served as a defensive coordinator at Pittsburgh and Florida International prior to UK. Defensive backs coach Steven Clinkscale was co-defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, and Dean Hood was a defensive coordinator at Wake Forest prior to becoming the head coach at EKU.
