TOP THREE: Kentucky makes four-star LB's shortened list

Four-star Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity International linebacker Eriq Gilyard released his shortened 'short list' on Twitter this week. Kentucky's still in play.

The 5-foot-11, 218-pound prospect plays a position of need for Kentucky.

Inside linebacker, indeed the linebacker position in general, is a need area for Kentucky in the 2018 recruiting cycle.

Xavier Peters and Chris Oats have occupied a lot of the conversation on linebacker recruiting at Kentucky, but Gilyard is far more than a consolation prize. He's one of the highest-ranked players on Kentucky's board. Now he's down to Kentucky, UCF and NC State.

Last month Gilyard told CatsIllustrated.com that he would be visiting Kentucky this summer, but there hasn't been any confirmation as of yet on whether that trip has taken place.

Lamar Thomas has served as Gilyard's recruiter for Kentucky.

Gilyard also recently tweeted that he would be announcing his college choice on October 1st. Such a timetable would afford him the opportunity to take official visits before making that decision public.
