Shutting it down

One of Kentucky's long-time commitments found himself caught up in the middle of a rivalry, on the field and in recruiting, but after his official visit he has no questions about where he's going to sign.

Kordell Looney recently admitted that he was thinking about taking an official visit to Louisville, and the subsequent stories, quotes and coverage gave the impression that he wasn't on the same page as the Kentucky coaches when it came to how everything went down.

But following in-home and school visits as well as Looney's weekend official visit to Kentucky there seems to be no cause for concern, at least for Mark Stoops and his staff.

"My official visit went good. I had a good time," Looney said. "I'm 100-percent solid. I know for a fact that's where I'm going to be signing."

Looney said the best part of the official visit was spending time with many of the football players already on the team. Courtney Love, Greg Hart, Kei Beckham, Tate Leavitt and Kash Daniel were among the players that spent a lot of time with Looney and the other visitors.

"We ate a lot," he added with a laugh. "For breakfast there was sausage and gravy biscuits, pancakes, waffles, parfaits, omelets and fruits. For dinner there was steak, chicken, Mexican, ribs, macaroni and a lot of sides. We went to the stadium for dinner one time. We were in that little area they built just for the parents (next to the patio). One night we ate at a restaurant -- Sal's."

Vince Marrow is Kordell Looney's recruiter and the two of them spent plenty of time with one another and talking over the weekend. Defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh also spoke at length with Looney, as did head coach Mark Stoops and defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot.

Looney was also able to meet new offensive coordinator Eddie Gran for the first time. Even though Gran won't be coaching Looney directly he made a good, strong impression.

"I liked him a lot. He was a cool guy," Looney said.

"It was a good visit because we could just chill and learn how everything works," Looney said. "We learned about the daily workouts and the school stuff. We went to the academic center and we went to a basketball game. It was a great trip all in all."
