McDonald's AA Game: Ranking the week's top performers

"One of only three players in the McDonald's Game who hasn't yet committed, Montgomery was the target of many recruiting pitches. He wants to be a face-up guy, but where he was most productive was playing from 12 feet and in, where his size and touch were serious weapons."

- Eric Bossi, March 2018

Stock up, 10 high school seniors who've impressed this season

"One of four five-star big men left in the class of 2018, Montgomery was once committed to Auburn before backing off in the wake of the federal investigation into college corruption. As a senior he's added some strength and most of all he's left the motor running at a high level all game long. He can face and shoot, he runs the floor, he's the ideal new age big man."

- Eric Bossi, December 2017

Adidas Nations action

"...A skilled and talented power forward, Montgomery played with a purpose in Houston. He knocked in seven of his 12 field goal tries, equating to 15 total points, while also logging six rebounds and three assists."

- Corey Evans, August 2017

All-Third Live Period Team

"Montgomery showed a commitment to playing more around the rim at the adidas Summer Championships. He’s added some good weight to his lean frame and seemed to be playing with some hunger we’ve not always seen in the past."

- Eric Bossi, August 2017

NBPA recap

"For a while now, class of 2018 five-star E.J. Montgomery's reputation and potential have been greater than his production. At the Top 100 Camp, Montgomery's output has finally matched his No. 9 overall ranking. Thought of in the past as a skill guy who likes to shoot jumpers, Montgomery spent most of his time attacking the rim and hunting high level conversions. Overall, it's been a very good look and his play in Charlottesville has been worthy of his lofty status in the rankings.

Inside the Rankings

"Finally there’s the 6-foot-9 Montgomery, who checks in at No. 9 overall. A slim forward who prefers to face the basket and shoot jumpers, he’s a skilled guy who fits the new age stretch four mold. Previously ranked No. 5 overall, Montgomery has huge upside but lacks some for consistency and needs to get a bit more physical around the rim. Montgomery has much of the same interest as his teammates along with offers from others like Auburn, Baylor, UCLA and N.C. State."

Fall Festival: Top freshmen and sophomores

"Currently ranked as the No. 5 player in the class of 2018,Montgomery is a skilled four man who fancies himself as a potential wing player. He can shoot with range but his proclivity to hang on the perimeter and eschew mixing it up around the rim has limited at times. There were no such issues with his play in Orlando. Montgomery used his 6-foot-10 size to play active on the glass, he attacked the rim and he played as physically as Rivals has ever seen him play. He can run the floor and when he's mixing it up like that his ability to then step out and shoot jumpers makes him beyond dangerous."
