Devin Askew is looking for a new college home, according to a report published report on Monday afternoon.

The freshman guard told 247Sports that he will enter the transfer portal, citing a desire to "explore a new opportunity."

Askew played in all 25 games for Kentucky this season, starting 20 of them. He averaged 6.5 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game while shooting 34.5% from the field, 80.6% from the free-throw line, and 27.5% from 3-point range.

The Sacramento, Calif., native struggled down the stretch this season, scoring just seven points in 88 minutes of action spanning his final four games. He lost his starting role at the point to Davion Mintz in the final two weeks of the season.

“This is the part of the business I hate,” UK head coach John Calipari said in a statement released by the school. “I wish I could coach every kid for four years, but I have to respect Devin’s decision and I do. I will always be here to help him. My hope – and I told him this – is that he takes the fight he learned here with him wherever he goes. He was a great teammate and improved in so many ways as the season wore on. I will be rooting for Devin as he takes this next step.”

Kentucky's roster remains in flux as the 2020-21 college basketball season comes to a close tonight with the national championship game. The program has announced the departure of freshman guards B.J.Boston and Terrence Clarke for the NBA Draft, as well as the intent to enter the draft evaluation process by freshman forward Isaiah Jackson.

Last month, freshman guard Cam'Ron Fletcher entered the transfer portal.

The Cats have added a grad transfer in the form of Davidson wing Kellan Grady. They are still awaiting official word from senior guard Davion Mintz on whether he plans to take advantage of an additional year at UK due to the exemption granted by the NCAA due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
