QB Williams, Central Gwinnett looking to bounce back
Kentucky's lone 2018 commitment, Jarren Williams, is looking to bounce back after a tough opener for Central Gwinnett. His squad fell to rival South Gwinnett 54-21 last week, with Williams rushing for a touchdown and completing 12/23 passes for just under 100 yards. His protection needs to improve and their defense must make more stops.
Dacula (Ga.), Central Gwinnett's opponent, features Boston College defensive tackle commitment Allen Daniels, who will try to chase Williams all game.
QB Wood looks to build on strong season debut
2017 quarterback commitment Walker Wood had a strong start for Lafayette last week. He spearheaded a strong offensive attack, along with five-star tackle Jedrick Wills, as Lafayette pummeled Dunbar 50-14 in a game that got more than a little chippy, according to reports.
Wood and Lafayette travel to Boyle County for a Saturday night tilt and that one's sure to be high intensity as well.
Bohanna's season opener
Plenty of UK commitments are playing in their first games of the 2016 season this week. What makes Quinton Bohanna unique in that is the fact that Cordova (Tenn.) had a game last week.
Bohanna missed Cordova's season opener because he was serving a one-game suspension for a helmet to helmet hit dating back to last year's playoffs. He told Cats Illustrated this week that he's excited to rejoin his teammates on the field.
Cats' Ohio commitments kick off 2016
While players in Kentucky and some in Florida kicked off their seasons last week, UK's Ohio commitments begin their 2016 campaigns on either Thursday or Friday this week.
There aren't many notable match ups in Ohio if you're looking for headliner talent on the sidelines opposite those of Kentucky commitments, but we'll bring you the latest as the results come in.
Out of action
Joshua Ali and Chaminade-Madonna have a week to think things over after dropping their season opener to Deerfield Beach (Fla.). This is their bye week, so it's a good time to look at what went wrong. Chaminade-Madonna needs to get Ali more involved in the offense two weekends from now.
New commit Michael Nesbitt and his Boyd Anderson teammates don't start their season in Florida until next weekend.
The only other UK commitment who isn't playing a game this weekend is JUCO defensive lineman Phil Hoskins, and that's because the Highlands C.C. student-athlete is redshirting this year. That will give him three years to complete three seasons of eligibility at Kentucky.
