Ohio RB Morgan Ellison recaps camp in Lexington

Pickerington Central is a school that might ring a bell to some fans of Kentucky football recruiting.

It's the school that sent Jaylin Bannerman to Kentucky. But it's also home to Class of 2017 running back Morgan Ellison.

Ellison is a 6-foot-1, 208-pound running back who has the attention of the Kentucky coaching staff. He hasn't played in either of the last two seasons because he broke one of his legs as a sophomore and then the other last year, so the fact that he's got the staff's attention in spite of that is a testament to his potential - at least one would think.

He turned in a strong SPARQ score at a recent camp in his home state, and he showed out for the coaches at Kentucky's Sunday Night Lights Camp this weekend.

When Ellison arrived at Kentucky he told Cats Illustrated that he didn't expect to do too much. But he ended up working out extensively at the camp with running backs coach and offensive coordinator Eddie Gran.

"I worked out a lot. I did a lot of stuff with the running backs coach. We did a lot of stuff. He likes me and he can't wait to see some early season film from this year," Ellison said after the conclusion of the camp.

And Ellison's thoughts on Gran?

"He's a good guy," he told Cats Illustrated. "You can tell he knows how to coach and you can tell he knows what he's talking about."

Ellison has a similarly high opinion of Kentucky following his first trip to Lexington.

He was supposed to visit UK for a camp in June, but his plans were pushed back. Either way, Ellison is happy he visited.

"It's a great environment," he said, with his former teammate, Bannerman, just feet away from him. "It feels like a lot of people are together here. They've got each other's backs. I like that a lot."

When asked if he would commit if the Wildcats offered Ellison played coy, joking with Bannerman for a moment before thinking out loud.

"Shoot," he said. "It would be a big thing if they did. One of my best friends (Bannerman) goes there."

Ellison will attend Ohio State's Friday Night Lights Camp this coming weekend.
