Nesbitt opens up on UK decision

Cats Illustrated spoke with Michael Nesbitt shortly after the Florida defensive back committed to Kentucky.

Nesbitt is the 13th commitment for Kentucky from the Class of 2017.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback was one of Cats Illustrated's top defensive performers from Kentucky's Sunday Night Lights camp in July. His length and athleticism was on full display as he competed well with Steven Clinkscale group of defensive backs.

That trip, for the camp, was Nesbitt's first time at Kentucky.

"I did great," Nesbitt said of his camp performance. "I wasn't running well because I had gained weight and I didn't work out for that long because it was my first workout of the summer, but it went well."

The coaches gave Nesbitt good feedback following that trip. That one visit was all Nesbitt needed to see in order to make his decision, although he waited for more than a month after the trip to give his pledge to the Cats.

"When I went up there I just thought it was home," Nesbitt said. "I felt all the love. I just loved the campus."

When Nesbitt says campus he means the facilities. He hasn't had a chance to see the entire campus, but while camping he did get a tour of the facilities.

"That's the best facility I've seen and I've been to Louisville, FAU, Miami, Florida State, Georgia ... everywhere. That's the best one I've seen," Nesbitt said.

Eddie Gran served as Nesbitt's recruiter from Kentucky's staff. Gran offered Nesbitt back in the spring. When they spoke over the phone Gran asked Nesbitt how high his interest would be in Kentucky if the Cats offered. Nesbitt responded that his interest would be very high. That's when their relationship began in earnest.

"I like Coach Gran," Nesbitt said. "He's got a winning mentality. That's all I'm about. I just want to win."

Kentucky recruited Nesbitt as a cornerback although he said he's capable of playing safety as well.

The Lauderdale Lakes (Fla.) Boyd Anderson prospect is a three-star recruit (5.7 RR) and the No. 59 corner in the nation according to Rivals.com. He also had offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Cal, Colorado, Florida State, Indiana, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina, Syracuse and a host of Group of Five and FCS schools.

Nesbitt did tell Cats Illustrated that he will be keeping a bit of an open mind between now and Signing Day.

"I'm most likely taking all my visits," Nesbitt said.
