Center fielder Cam Hill committed to Kentucky's baseball program in May. Cats Illustrated takes a closer look.
In an effort to provide unprecedented coverage of the UK baseball program -- primarily in-season but also year round -- Cats Illustrated will be profiling some of the baseball program's commitments and targets.
Hill is a Class of 2017 center fielder from Scott County who will also be playing for the Midland Redskins, a team out of Ohio, this fall.
Although he's played some infield in his personal history with the game, Hill has been recruited as an outfielder for the Cats. He's 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds and brings a lot to the table that seventh-year head coach Gary Henderson liked when he first started recruiting Hill.
The right-handed outfielder is a left-handed hitter and that's an attribute that Henderson was drawn to.
"Speed, arm strength and I attack the game," Hill told Cats Illustrated when explaining the reasons that Henderson and the UK staff liked him.
Specifically, he's been clocked at 6.4 seconds in the 60-yard dash. For those not familiar with baseball times in that regard -- that's a very good time. Hill's got wheels, which helps him on the bases and also covering a lot of ground in the outfield.
His arm strength is impressive as well, as he said. He throws 95 miles per hour from the outfield so he's got a gun that opposing base runners have to respect even after he's covered a lot of ground to get to the ball.
Those attributes -- a strong arm, great wheels and lefty hitting -- make it easy to understand Kentucky's interest.
Judging by Hill's Twitter profile he's a big Kentucky fan, not only with regard to the baseball program. He was in the stands at the Wildcats' win over EKU.
