Kentucky used a drone at football practice on Monday

Drones are used by military, law enforcement and ... Kentucky's football program.

On Monday, Mark Stoops' staff got creative with an unmanned aerial vehicle in their latest effort to market their program and provide a new angle for themselves as well as for fans and prospective student-athletes.

Dan Berezowitz, Kentucky's director of football recruiting operations, told CatsIllustrated.com on Tuesday that the football program had put the aerial device to use the previous day. The drone was there to shoot video of Kentucky's football facility and the practice that was taking place.

As you might imagine, this isn't the kind of thing that anyone can put together at a moment's notice.

“There’s a lot of FAA rules about when you can fly,” Berezowitz said. “You can’t do it for games and all that stuff. We’re just kind of dabbling in it right now just to basically kind of keep in the game, stay ahead, have somebody else chasing us.”

UK enlisted the help of someone in town who runs a company that specializes in video shot from drones.

“So we got connected with him and just got some unique perspective shots for mostly really social media and our facility but then also some unique video for our coaches to play with and different views of things. It’s just another avenue, another form of something we can use to do different things. A lot of NBA, Major League Baseball’s starting to get into it,” Berezowitz added.

In the seemingly never-ending college football arms race where boundaries are always being pushed outwards, seemingly by the SEC more than any other league, Kentucky's staff is always looking for a way to break new ground and do something unique, Berezowitz said.
