Kentucky offers Mark Smith

On Thursday, four-star Rivals150 guard Mark Smith landed an offer from Kentucky.

It's a significant development with the Wildcats looking to bolster their backcourt depth going into the 2017-18 season.

Ramey Jets United coach Andre McMurray announced Kentucky's offer to Smith on Twitter.

Smith, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound two-guard from Edwardsville, Ill., had emerged in the past week or two as a prime candidate to land an offer from John Calipari's staff.

With De'Aaron Fox, Malik Monk and Isaiah Briscoe all declaring for the draft with plans to hire agents and with Dominique Hawkins and Mychal Mulder exhausting their eligibility, Kentucky will have an entirely new backcourt in the 2017-18 season.

Five-star point guard Quade Green and five-star early enrollee Hamidou Diallo figure to be strong, leading contenders for starting spots in Kentucky's backcourt next year, but depth is needed.

Discuss this important development at the House of Blue.
