Cats Illustrated: You just had your in-home visit with the UK staff this week. Who came by and how did that go?
Jamin Davis: Coach (Mark) Stoops and Coach (Matt) House came by and it was really good, actually. We were just pretty much sitting down and having a good conversation. It was mostly about getting my family on board.
Cats Illustrated: If I recall correctly I remember speaking to your dad at Kentucky's camp over the summer and he said he was happy you were committed to Kentucky. Did he have any questions he needed to have answered, or was your family mostly just listening?
Davis: The majority of the time they were just hearing what Coach Stoops and Coach House had to say. They asked a few questions pertaining to the official visit for (Friday), but nothing really major. It was mainly dealing with signing and all of that.
Cats Illustrated: Did Stoops and House talk football with you?
Davis: Yes, they were mainly talking about just when I first get there how I really need to go hard in the weight room. Things like that. Talking about how it will really be an advantage for me coming early because it will help me get my feet up under me. It will help academically because I'm not going to be cramming everything in my head and trying to learn the playbook at the same time like some of the other guys will be.
Cats Illustrated: How long have you known you were going to enroll early and what's your thinking on it?
Davis: I knew probably since before I committed. I knew I wanted to go early because I had seen a lot of people do it. I have a friend who plays for Florida now -- Chauncey Gardner -- and I've seen him doing it. It seems like it's been a great thing for him.
Cats Illustrated: After you committed to Kentucky you picked up a few more offers. Has recruiting cooled down or do you still hear a lot from other schools?
Davis: It's slowed down a little bit but I still get mail from Purdue here and there. I hear from schools like Georgia Southern and NC State a little bit. It's not really picking up. It's slowing down. Mostly just Purdue sending a few things in the mail.
Cats Illustrated: How do Kentucky's coaches see you fitting into the defense? Are you an inside or outside linebacker to them?
Davis: I'm not sure. I want to say outside but (Stoops) was really talking to me about my frame and I think they're trying to put more weight on me, so maybe inside.
Cats Illustrated: What's your height and weight right now?
Davis: I would say about 6'3, 209.
Cats Illustrated: Do the coaches think you'll be able to put on weight pretty quickly once you get up there?
Davis: Yes. That's the main thing I'm going to be working on.
Cats Illustrated: What were your thoughts on Kentucky's season this year? They obviously started rough with two losses but rebounded to win seven of their last ten. What'd you think of all that and the win against Louisville at the end of the year?
Davis: That was a really big surprise to me. I was really glad their school is actually showing that they're building and handling adversity really well, especially against Louisville. That's the game where everybody really counted them out. It shows me that this is the best time for me to be going there.
Cats Illustrated: Did Stoops talk about that win over Louisville when he visited?
Davis: Oh yes (laughing). That was one of the first things we started talking about -- about the Louisville game and how it was a really big win. I was telling him how I was watching the game at the gym. Once I saw the final score I started running around.
