Gran says rising freshman running back has first round potential

Dublin Coffman is the Ohio school that sent Gunnar Hoak to Kentucky.

The school is also home to a running back, Michael Drennen II, who landed a camp offer from the Cats.

Actually, the school hasn't been Drennen's home for long. He's only a rising freshman.

Vince Marrow is the UK assistant who recruits Ohio, and he'll be on Drennen in the months ahead. On Sunday, Drennon worked out extensively with running backs coach and offensive coordinator Eddie Gran.

Gran knows a little something about running backs. Coaching the position is a big part of his resume. He's coached several of the top rushers, statistically and by their careers, who attended Auburn.

He's working with Stanley Williams, Jojo Kemp, Sihiem King, Mikel Horton and others at Kentucky, and on Sunday he was apparently very impressed with Drennon.

Although Drennon is just starting high school he was very impressive at UK's camp and landed an offer from the Cats.

"Coach (Eddie) Gran said that with my ability, I have the potential to be a first round draft pick in the NFL," Drennen said.

"He's a great man and a lot of the technique that he and the other coaches were explaining is going to definitely come in handy this upcoming season," he added.

Drennen got a good first taste of Kentucky and what it's like in Lexington.

"I think it's a very nice place for sure," he said. "And the coaches there (are) great."
