Hall of Fame Class to be Honored
Former Kentucky coach Rich Brooks has been in Lexington for part of this week and he'll make a return to Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday night. Kentucky will honor Brooks and former UK linebacker Wesley Woodyard of the Tennessee Titans at halftime. They'll also honor four others who make up the school's 2016 Hall of Fame class.
Keys to a Kentucky win
When Kentucky has the ball ... The Wildcats have to put up a lot of points. Quarterback Stephen Johnson doesn't have to be as efficient or as explosive as he was against New Mexico State, but he's got to beat the Gamecock defense, and perhaps a lot. One of the biggest keys to the game for Kentucky will be finding a way to get points when the ball moves deep into South Carolina territory. Will Muschamp's defense has made timely plays when their backs have been against the wall and UK has to come away with points in that situation.
When South Carolina has the ball ... The Cats don't have to shut South Carolina down completely. They just have to find a way to make enough big plays to get off the field enough and to keep the USC end of the scoreboard from exploding. The secondary leads the SEC in interceptions (six) and adding to that total would be a good start. The defense would also do well to rattle freshman Gamecock quarterback Brandon McIlwain.
The big question: Must-win game for Stoops?
Is this a must-win game for Stoops?
The depends on whether you believe his $12 million buyout will prove insurmountable at the end of the season.
If Kentucky is willing to pay the buyout then this game could very well be make-or-break for the Cats' fourth year coach. Lose this and the team is 1-3 heading into Tuscaloosa, Ala. If that happens a bowl game would seem very unlikely.
