FULL-GO FOR UK: Official visit leaves no doubt in Davis' mind

Jamin Davis didn't seem to have any doubts before his official visit to Kentucky, but that trip seems to have left no room for any.

He spoke with Cats Illustrated about that trip, which took place last weekend.

Davis, a three-star linebacker commitment from Ludowici (Ga.) Long County, finished the 2016 season with more than 120 tackles. He was one of the most active defensive players in the entire state of Georgia. Following a strong camp performance at Kentucky over the summer, it's safe to say the staff is feeling good about his commitment.

He said his visit to Kentucky over the weekend "was really good." It was far from his first trip to Kentucky.

"I was pretty much just hanging out with all the guys and letting everybody know I'm ready to be there in a few weeks from now," the early enrollee-to-be told Cats Illustrated.

Davis' host for the weekend was redshirt freshman linebacker Eli Brown, who started making his first meaningful contributions to Kentucky on the field this fall.

"He was real cool. He was real funny," Davis said with a laugh. "There were other players around but I didn't really hang out with them all that much. As far as the other commits, I was with Alex King a little bit."

The basketball game was a big part of the trip and although Davis said he was expecting Kentucky to defeat UCLA he added that he still enjoyed that portion of the official.

Davis had an opportunity to sit down with head coach Mark Stoops, defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot and position coach (and area recruiter) Matt House on his official visit.

"Coach House was basically just letting me know that they're pretty much ready for me to get there. They projected me as a monster and all this other stuff, projecting me to be something like 6'4 and 215 by the time the season starts. It was that and just casual conversation with my family," Davis added.

The biggest thing to come from the trip was making sure Davis' family was on board. His father told Cats Illustrated over the summer, at UK's Sunday Night Lights Camp, that he was glad he had picked Kentucky, and that loyalty was important to the family.

"My family enjoyed it. My mom was saying (the visit) pretty much sealed the deal," he said.

Davis said he wants to major in mechanical engineering.
