Freshmen pick up slack in UK rout

The Kentucky basketball team opened its season Friday night with one of its top returning players on the bench.
The Wildcats' new faces more than made up for it.

With Terrence Jones coming off the bench after his involvement in an early-morning car accident, all four of UK's highly-touted freshmen scored in double figures, leading the Cats to a 108-58 win against Marist at Rupp Arena.
Anthony Davis scored 23 points, Marquis Teague added 16,
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 15 and Kyle Wiltjer 14.
Doron Lamb added 15 points and a career-high eight assists for UK (1-0).
Isaiah Morton scored 13 points to lead Marist (0-1), which was outscored 63-22 in the second half.
Jones did not start the game after he and Stacey Poole Jr. were passengers in a car involved in an auto accident at about 2:30 a.m. Friday. Jones left the scene - which is legal for a passenger - and did not violate any team rules, UK coach John Calipari said in a statement on his website.
Jones had eight points and nine rebounds off the bench.
Kentucky's win was its 34th straight at Rupp Arena. That's the all-time longest wining streak at Rupp.
