Former LSU shortstop Trey Dawson commits to Kentucky

Trey Dawson, LSU's opening day shortstop in 2016, transferred to Chipola College in Florida in August. On Thursday night, the Hurricane, W. Va., native committed to Kentucky. He will be a member of the 2017 class.

Dawson made four starts and played in 27 games his freshman season at LSU. He batted .111 (2-18) in that time. Dawson was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 32nd round of the MLB Draft in 2015 but chose to go to school.

As a high schooler, Dawson earned 2015 First-Team All-State honors in West Virginia and posted a .425 batting average, 20 stolen bases and a .557 on-base average in 2015. He committed just one error as a senior.

Dawson is the 16th commitment in Kentucky's 2017 class according to Perfectgame.org.
