FINAL SIX: Five-star guard includes UK

Kentucky made the final six of one of the top point guard targets in the class of 2017 on Tuesday morning.

Javonte Smart tweeted out his list of six. UK made the list along with Kansas, LSU, Florida State, UCLA and Oklahoma State. Smart is a 6-foot-4, 180-pound point guard from Scotlandville, La.

Smart still doesn't hold an offer from Kentucky, the only school on his list not to offer, but has always thought highly of the Cats.

Kentucky has offered guards Immanuel Quickley and Quentin Grimes in the class of 2018, although UK has consistently kept communication lines open with Smart and an offer likely isn't too far away.

While the class of 2018 is loaded with bigs and a few solid shooting guards, the class isn't overly deep with point guards. There is only one other point guard in the class of 2018 ranked in the top 25, Darius Garland, and despite some brief interest from Kentucky the Cats haven't recruited Garland in month. It's likely one of Grimes, Quickley or Smart ends up at UK for the 2018-2019 season.

Smart is averaging 15.5 points, 4.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game in the Nike EYBL this summer. Smart is playing for Houston Hoops, the same AAU team De'Aaron Fox played for a few summers ago.

Despite being young for the team, in 2015 Smart played for the USA U16 team that went undefeated in the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Argentina. He averaged 6.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.4 assists in five games.

There is no timetable for a final decision from Smart, although if UK were to offer the Cats may be perceived as the leader. The hometown LSU Tigers are a major player and you can't count out Kansas, although many believe the Jayhawks lead for Grimes.

And if the Cats were to offer things could move quickly for Smart.
