TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Hours before Alabama basketball’s annual awards banquet, the Crimson Tide learned it might be without one of its star players next season as forward Braxton Key declared for this year’s NBA Draft without an agent. By the end of the night, news broke that the Tide might also receive a welcome return.
Earlier this month junior Ar’Mond Davis announced he would be transferring from Alabama next season. However, when talking to reporters following the Tide’s banquet, teammate Dazon Ingram accidentally let it slip that Davis might not be leaving after all.
“I wasn’t for it but he decided to stay, so I’m just happy that he stayed,” Ingram said when asked about Davis’ transfer. “Nah, he’s not going anywhere.”
The statement came as a shock to reporters, who questioned Ingram further, asking him if he had any discussions with Davis on the matter. Ingram started to give a reply before realizing that he had said too much already.
“I mean we talked about it and I mean I think he’s probably going to just sit out this year and redshirt, but... I ain’t supposed to be telling this to you.”
An Alabama official later clarified the matter, stating Davis is still weighing is options and his decision to return is not certain. Davis originally tweeted his intention to transfer on his Twitter account, but that tweet has since been deleted.
Davis averaged 6 points and 1.5 rebounds per game over 32 games last season. He ranked fourth on the team in made three-pointers with 32 and was third in threes attempted. He finished in double digits in scoring 10 times including a season-high 19 points in the Tide’s four-overtime victory at South Carolina on Feb. 7.
Davis came to the Tide as a JUCO transfer last year after playing two seasons at the College of Southern Idaho.
