Righting the ship may take more than one addition but John Calipari has taken a big step toward improving the Wildcats with an eye ahead to the 2021-22 season.
According to Stadium's Jeff Goodman, Davidson transfer Kellan Grady has decided to transfer to Kentucky.
The grad transfer will be eligible immediately for the next season.
Grady averaged 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists for the Wildcats this past season. He shot 47.1% from the field, 38.2% from three, and 67.6% from the free throw line.
Grady has averaged between 17-18 points all four of his seasons at the collegiate level. In fact, across almost all categories Grady's numbers have been remarkably consistent since he enrolled at Davidson four seasons ago.
A native of Boston, Mass., the 6'5, 205-pound guard is an established threat from outside the arc and the analytics say he's either above average or very good at spot up shooting, scoring in transition, and running the pick and roll.
For a Kentucky program that struggled to find good guard play in the worst season in at least a generation and perhaps longer, that's a welcome development.
Kentucky's roster is starting to come together for next year. Dontaie Allen, Jacob Toppin, Lance Ware, and Devin Askew have all announced or are expected to return to Lexington for another season while West Virginia transfer Oscar Tshiebwe will be eligible as well.
Kentucky adds freshmen Nolan Hickman, Bryce Hopkins, and Daimion Collins, but loses Terrence Clarke, BJ Boston, Isaiah Jackson, and Cam'Ron Fletcher. However, Jackson will not hire an agent as he goes through the draft process.
UK is still awaiting decisions from Keion Brooks, Davion Mintz, and Olivier Sarr.
