Corners Caffey, Reed dismissed from team

A pair of young cornerbacks have been dismissed from the football team for a violation of team rules, UK athletics spokesman Tony Neely said on Wednesday.
Freshman cornerback Jonathan Reed and sophomore cornerback Marcus Caffey are no longer with the team, Neely said. Neither ever played a down for the Wildcats.

Caffey signed with UK in 2011 and redshirted that fall as a tailback. He was moved to cornerback after the season and was expected to be a starter in 2012, but was academically ineligible. He would have been a redshirt sophomore for the 2013 season. Caffey was one of three players cited for marijuana possession on Sept. 13.
Reed signed with UK in 2012 from Indianapolis. Three true freshman cornerbacks played for the Wildcats this season, but Reed was redshirted.
Phillips Enrolls for Spring
Freshman quarterback Reese Phillips has enrolled for the spring semester and was on campus for the first day of classes on Wednesday, UK announced in a news release.
Phillips will go through spring practice with the football team. He told Cats Illustrated in December offensive coordinator Neal Brown told him he could compete for the position immediately.
"He said everyone is going to have a chance," Phillips said. "Me going early will definitely help. We'll all be on the same playing field."
