COMMITMENT: Baker picks the Cats

On Tuesday afternoon Jemarl Baker popped for Kentucky, becoming the sixth commitment in the class of 2017.

Baker is a 6-foot-3, 190-pound shooting guard from Corona, Calif. and was originally committed to California. Because he committed so early to the Golden Bears there wasn't much hype surrounding his recruitment, but once Cuonzo Martin left California for Missouri, Baker became a popular name on the recruiting trail.

Kentucky met with Baker on Friday and he committed to UK just days later.

Once Baker backed off his pledge to California he heard from a plethora of schools. Arizona, Maryland, Oregon and several others visited Baker, along with UK, and there was a sense that Baker would take some visits before deciding.

But UK also offered Mark Smith and Cam Johnson, while still pursuing wing scorer Kevin Knox, and perhaps Baker wanted to lock in his spot and decided to commit as soon as possible.

Baker is ranked the No. 80 player in the Rivals150 and is a four-star commit. He's Kentucky's lowest ranked commitment but joins the No.1 ranked class that already includes Quade Green, Jarred Vanderbilt, Nick Richards, P.J. Washington and Shai Alexander.

Baker led the Under Armour AAU circuit in made three-pointers last summer.
