Cats add a defensive tackle

Kentucky's recruiting roll continued Wednesday night with a commitment from massive defensive tackle Kobe Smith.
No surprise here. Smith has been considered a Kentucky lean since visiting Lexington shortly after his decommitment from N.C. State.

There in Lexington he bonded with several members of the Kentucky coaching staff and some of the players.
He's been networking with other Kentucky commitments, from both the 2016 and 2017 classes, so his Wednesday choice was all but a formality.
N.C. State and Miami were Smith's other finalists.
For most of his recruitment Smith was committed to N.C. State. But the 6-foot-3, 315-pound lineman, who will play the three-technique at Kentucky, decided to abruptly change course after visiting Kentucky.
Kentucky will have significant turnover at the defensive tackle position over the next two years. Smith and Ja'Quize Cross will both provide depth at the three-technique spot for defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh, while defensive tackle Kordell Looney could play inside or at end.
Smith is a highly regarded defensive lineman from Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer. He's the No. 38 player in Georgia and the No. 30 defensive tackle nationally according to Rivals.com, which makes him a high three-star recruit.
