Calipari checks on Immanuel Quickley

John Calipari made a trip to Maryland to check on five-star guard Immanuel Quickley on Sunday.

One day removed from coaching the Cats to a 92-72 win over Auburn, Calipari was on the road again. And that's a sign of how important Quickley could be.

Quickley is ranked the No. 12 player in the Rivals150 for the Class of 2018. He's the second-ranked point guard in the class behind only Darius Garland, the No. 10 player in the rankings.

In late November, Quickley listed eight schools as favorites. In no order those schools were Kentucky, Virginia, Duke, Kansas, Providence, Washington, Miami and Maryland.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound five-star guard from Bel Air (Md.) John Carroll has been on the Cats' radar for months.

In early November, Rivals.com's Eric Bossi predicted Quickley would ultimately land with Washington, but those were "way too early" picks by Bossi's own admission. Bossi noted that the apparent lack of elite point guard talent in the 2017 class has caused Quickley to become even more popular with colleges.

Kentucky offered Quickley a scholarship in early October.

According to Corey Evans of Rivals.com, Miami's Jim Larranaga, Virginia's Tony Bennett and a coach from Maryland were also watching Quickley on Sunday.
