Rewind: Mays decided his long college career will end in Lexington after committing to the Cats in early May. Mays actually hosted UK's Ryan Harrow on Harrow's recruiting visit at N.C. State and played two seasons for for the Wolfpack, averging 4.7 points in 16.5 minutes. Mays left N.C. State in 2010 and was eligible to play for Wright State for the 2011-2012 season. He was the Raiders' leading scorer, averaging 33.4 minutes, 14.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in his lone season in the Horizon League.
Fast Forward: Mays was a late addition for UK and is expected to add depth and veteran leadership. Having to learn a third system in five years could pose a challenge for Mays but chemistry shouldn't. He has been practicing with the current team for the majority of the summer and should be a quality reserve behind Harrow and Archie Goodwin.
John Calipari says: "You can play Archie (Goodwin) at point. Now you have a big point. It's not bad, that little rotation. Julius can play some point. Tough kid, (can) play a different style."
