The 6-foot-8, 340-pound offensive tackle didn't just start hearing from Kentucky completely out of the blue. He was hearing from the Cats a long time ago.

After all, he's a well-regarded prospect and one you can't miss on the field. On top of that, his former teammate is Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, who was committed to Kentucky for a large portion of the recruiting process.

"I was talking to them for a while," Lewis said. "As soon as Mac decommitted I guess they kind of fell off me a little bit. Then they hit me up on Twitter (recently) and said, 'You've gotta get a hold of me. You've got to text me.' So I texted him for about a day and he said, 'I love your tape,' and he just offered me."

Lewis said he spoke with Lamar Thomas and Vince Marrow.

"They actually said they saw my film two days ago for the first time and they don't know why it took so long to really figure out about me," Lewis said. "I guess they just came upon my film, watched it and thought it was impressive."

Lewis also has offers from Cincinnati, Iowa State, Maryland, Memphis, Minnesota, UCF, Washington State and many others. But in spite of that, Kentucky's offer seems to have made an impact. After all, Lewis set a trip very quickly.

"The coaching staff's pretty cool and I've talked to them and they're adamant about me going up there. They want me to come in my first year and play for them," Lewis said. "I like Kentucky. I've been talking to Mac about it and they said they treat you like family up there."

The Class of 2018 prospect said he has also visited Auburn this summer. He attended one of Oregon's satellite camps in Florida as well. He's waiting for offers from those two schools and seems to like the idea of taking official visits to those places, but no such trips have been scheduled yet.

Lewis did say that he knows he will take an official visit to Iowa State, largely because the Cyclones got involved with him very early in his recruitment and he feels some loyalty to them because of that.
