Safety Korey Hernandez believes he's "on the brink" of an offer from Kentucky.
Whether or not that offer comes through, time will be the judge. But for now the 5-foot-11, 175-pound safety from Decatur (Ga.) Southwest Dekalb is at least on UK's radar. That much seems clear.
He confirmed to Cats Illustrated that the Wildcat staff has been in contact with him.
"On the brink of a verbal offer," the Class of 2017 prospect said.
He said it's "mainly Coach (Derrick) Ansley" that has been in contact with him. So what's Ansley been talking about?
"Basically how I would fit in as a Wildcat," Hernandez said. "And how great the Big Blue Nation is. I like the fact that they were in the SEC. I would love to play in the SEC. Love the winning spirit they have established up there in Lexington.
"Most of all (he likes) the relentless defense Coach (D.J.) Eliot has up there."
Although he's listed as a safety, Hernandez said he's mostly being recruited as a cornerback or a nickel back.
So far this year he's got 47 total tackles (22 solo), seven pass breakups, two sacks, six tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery on defense -- quite a stat line. On offense he's caught 11 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
Hernandez claims an early offer from Miami-OH.
