Calipari gives inside glimpse at practice
John Calipari is just getting his feet wet in Lexington but that hasn't stopped the new coach from sneaking a peek at his Kentucky team. The Cats practiced for the second team in as many days on Wednesday, a short 45-minute workout at the Joe Craft Center.
The NCAA allows teams to practice for two hours a week until April 15th and Calipari is no doubt using that short time to get acquainted with his returning roster and give them an idea of the foundations of his dribble-drive offense. The coach invited 15 media members (as well as former players Kenny Walker and Richie Farmer) to Wednesday's workout to get a feel for what the 'new' Kentucky will look like.
In general, the practice had an upbeat feel to it, although Calipari was not afraid to frequently stop play with his whistle to make coaching points. One thing is certain, this coaching staff will attempt to make the game simply for the Cats, a wide-open, straight-forward, full-speed ahead outfit that attacks opponents the way sharks do chum in the water.
"Everything I'm trying to get you all to do is go full bore," Calipari said at one point. "We're just trying to win, not do crazy stuff."
