Looking ahead to Marcus Lee's 2014 season
Antioch, Calif. (Deer Valley)
Preview Podcast: Publisher Brett Dawson and staff writers T.J. Walker and Aaron Smith break down their expectations of Marcus Lee.
Rewind: Lee averaged 17.7 points, 19.5 rebounds and 6.7 blocks per game as a senior at Deer Valley High School, earning a spot on the McDonald's All-American team. An explosive leaper and fluid athletes, Lee also has exceptional timing as a shot blocker.
Fast Forward: On a loaded Kentucky team, even a player as talented as Lee will have to fight for playing time, and he might need more than a year to thrive in John Calipari's system. But Lee's athleticism and versatility could earn him significant minutes in the rotation, likely as a reserve.
John Calipari says: "Pogo stick, active, high energy, 6-10, 6-11, long armed. Another player who, again, wanted to be here. These kids all wanted to be here. This is where... they wanted the challenge of this, and they wanted to do it together. So when you look at Marcus Lee, you say he could have gone somewhere (with less competition)... . He didn't want to go. He wanted to come here and take on this challenge."
