Conrad McRae League (Saturday)

BROOKLYN, NY - In another batch of games at the Conrad McRae Youth League, a group of highly anticipated games turned out not to be so much the case, however both were still highly entertaining and loaded with dunks.

Wings Academy takes down Team Conrad, 62-48

Team Conrad came out blazing early behind a couple of long range bombs by lefty gunner Noah Woods (Trinity Pawling HS - 6'1 Wing - 2015) and held a commanding 18-8 lead at the end of the first.

Wings pressed very hard in the full court and while they appeared to be down in the dump early, they recovered quickly in the quarter behind some steals and good play making by their power backcourt duo of Desure Buie and Randy Corporan (5'9 Guard - 2015). With 3:00 minutes remaining Wings managed to edge back to within three points, 20-17 but a mini run by Team Conrad capped off by a pull up mid-range jumpshot by Woods gave Team Conrad a comfortable 27-21 lead at half.

Wings Academy started the third with their own10-0 run. Ball pressure and play making by Buie and Corporan along with the offensive outbursts by teammate Foday Sankaray (6'2 Guard - 2014) began to really put the pressure back on Team Conrad. The press of Wings forced Team Conrad to commit numerous turnovers putting them in 45-37 hole at the end of the third. The good play continued for Wings and in a brilliant team effort they cruised to victory.

Wings Academy players Sankaray and Buie chipped in 15 and 10 points apiece while Woods led Team Conrad with 20 points.

Abraham Lincoln Steamrolls Bishop Ford, 82-50

The game of the day between Bishop Ford and Lincoln began with the announcer hyping Isaiah Whitehead's (Lincoln HS - 6'3 SG- 2014) recent impressive performance at the Dyckman Tournament. Whitehead did not disappoint as he seemingly could not stay off of the rim along with teammate Desi Rodriguez (Lincoln HS - 6'5 Wing/Forward) - who started the game with a dunkfest.

The game started off with a one handed tomahawk slam by Rodriguez followed up by an alley opp slam with the assist thrown by Whitehead. After stuffing Bishop Ford on the other end, Rodriguez the caught another stuff in the lane and then passes the torch to Whitehead to dunk on a Bishop Ford player and get fouled. Lincoln led early 11-2. Bishop Loughlin however tried to stay strong behind the strong play of Dior Dixon (5'11 Guard - 2016) and Mark Jones (5'9 PG - 2014). At the end of the first Lincoln led 30-18.

In the second quarter is when things got ridiculous. Bishop Ford really started to struggle with turnovers and seemingly could not buy a basket while Lincoln players Whitehead and Rodriguez seemingly were about to break it off. The two players at halftime had a combined 10 dunks and Rodriguez was on his way to breaking a tournament record with 8 dunks in the books. At half, Lincoln dominated 53-25.

The second half was more of the same. Whitehead, Rodriguez, and crew had the game in the bag already and people were curious to see if Rodriguez would actually break the dunk record. He didn't, as he only managed to tie the all-time tournament record with 10 dunks but his efforts were laudable. Bishop Ford simply was no match for Lincoln on this day as the Railsplitters ran away with this one.

Rodriguez led all scorers with 26 while teammate Whitehead chipped in with 21. Bishop Ford was led by Dior Dixon with 18 points respectively.
