Freeman to ask out of UCLA
Allerik Freeman will ask out of his Letter of Intent and open his recruitment back up, his Findlay Prep head coach Todd Simon told BruinSportsReport.com Tuesday evening.UCLA 2013 signee
"I think Al just wants to exercise all due diligence in making this major life decision," Simon said in a text.
Just two and a half weeks ago, Freeman said he had talked with new Bruin head coach Steve Alford, and they were on the same page.
"We were just talking and getting to know each other and having a conversation," Freeman said. "He told me about himself, he told me about his previous coaching and where he coached and his NBA career. We talked for a minute, and I just told him I'm excited to be coached by him and his staff. He said he's seen me play and is excited to coach me and we're both excited about the future."
But clearly, those sentiments soured later in the month.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound guard now becomes the second-best available prospect (No. 81 overall) behind No. 1 player Andrew Wiggins in 2013.
Freeman picked UCLA in the fall out of a top five of UCLA, Duke, Kansas, Villanova and Ohio State.
