Allen-Williams commits

South Carolina's football staff picked up a big commitment on Monday when four-star linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams pledged to USC.

The choice came earlier than expected, but felt right to the four-star performer.

"I was thinking about May, but I just woke up this morning and it felt right," he explained. "I knew when I woke up in the morning and felt comfortable I would do it. I was talking to Coach (Steve) Spurrier and Coach (Lorenzo) Ward about it, and I talked to my head coach. He said to pull the trigger if I felt comfortable."

One factor that helped push the decision to commit over the top was a phone call from the Head Ball Coach.

"Coach Spurrier was the first coach to call this morning," he said. "He said he felt like when I commit, it would help the program move in a positive direction."

Ward was a big reason why Allen-Williams decided to take his talents to Columbia.

"He's been recruiting me really hard. He's been recruiting me since my sophomore year. I feel comfortable with Coach (Deke) Adams. He had me highly considering UNC for a little bit. I just love the staff there. Coach (Kirk) Botkin, he's going to be my position coach."

Allen-Williams has said multiple times that he planned on doing some heavy recruiting for the program he ended up choosing. He confirmed that he indeed plans on putting on his recruiting hat immediately. Who is he planning on trying to get to join him?

"Andrew Williams, Wesley Green, I'm probably going to try to get Da'Shawn Hand, Lorenzo Carter, those guys" he said. "I'm about get on the recruiting trail.

The 6-foot-2, 218-pounder chose the Gamecocks over Alabama, Georgia, and over 20 other major scholarship offers.

The Georgia product has been selected to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and is a member of the Rivals250, checking in at number 247. He is also ranked by Rivals.com as the 19th-best outside linebacker prospect in the country.

He is the second commitment in USC's 2014 recruiting class, joining Dillon (S.C.) athlete Joe Blue.
