Former LSU assistant Peveto to join staff

Former Northwestern State football coach Bradley Dale Peveto has been officially announced as Kentucky's safeties and special teams coach.

Peveto, 49, compiled a 14-30 record in four seasons at Northwestern State. He was an assistant at Louisiana State from 2005-08, serving as linebackers coach and special teams coach from 2005-07 before moving to co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in 2008.

Peveto and UK head coach Mark Stoops were co-defensive coordinators together at Houston in 2000.

"I knew the year we coached together that Coach Stoops had a great defensive mind and was one of the best coaches - both in teaching players on the field and building relationships with them off the field - I've ever known," Peveto said in a UK press release. "I believed he had all the qualities necessary to become a head coach and I'm proud to join his staff at the University of Kentucky."

Peveto has also made stops as an assistant at Middle Tennessee State, Arkansas and Southern Mississippi.

LSU won a national championship in 2007 with Peveto on staff. The Tigers ranked third nationally and led the Southeastern Conference in total defense that year, giving up just 288.8 yards per game. They ranked 32nd nationally in 2008, allowing 325.5 yards per game.

"Bradley Dale impressed me greatly during the year we worked together," Stoops said in a UK press release. "He has a relentless work ethic and excellent experience as a special teams coordinator and defensive coach."

As LSU's special teams coordinator in 2007, punter Patrick Fisher and kicker Colt David were both first team All-SEC picks. Arkansas won the SEC West with Peveto on staff in 1995.

The Beaumont, Texas native played at Southern Methodist University from 1982-86. He played defensive back for the Mustangs and was a captain his senior year.
