Notes: Estill joins staff, alumni game scheduled
Marquis Estill is coming back to the Kentucky basketball program.
The former Wildcat has joined John Calipari's staff as an undergraduate assistant coach. Estill, who played for Tubby Smith from 2000-03, is returning to school to completed his undergrad degree.
He'll assist before, during and after practice and primarily focus on working with UK's forwards. NCAA rules allow former players returning to work on their degrees to work as on-court staff.
Wayne Turner, Tony Delk and Scott Padgett also have worked on Calipari's staff since he took over as head coach in 2009.
"I'm really excited about joining the staff this season," Estill said in a release. "I'm very grateful that Coach Cal is giving me this opportunity. He is a great coach, and I look forward to working with him and this talented team."
Estill finished his career with 936 points in three seasons.
He averaged 11.6 points per game as a senior, helping lead UK to a 32-4 record, a 16-0 mark in the Southeastern Conference and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament's Midwest Regional Final.
"I am so happy to bring back Marquis as an undergraduate assistant on our staff," Calipari said. "One thing I always tell our players is that they are always welcome back here, especially to get their degree.
"This is a players-first program, and we will always be here for them in whatever capacity they need. I applaud Marquis for coming back to finish his degree, and I encourage all of our former players to do the same."
